| NEWPORT, R.I. (July 27, 2009) – Forty-four BankNewport employees recently laced up their bowling shoes to benefit Big Brothers of Rhode Island. BankNewport employees and “Bowl-A-Thon” coordinators, Ross Isbrandt, Joan Lemieux, and Mary Anne Tuttle, presented checks totaling $1,558 to Val Sinesi, executive director of Big Brothers of Rhode Island, representing the proceeds raised at this year’s event. BankNewport’s employee “Bowl-A-Thon” is held annually to benefit a local non-profit organization. The event was held at Holiday Lanes in Westport, Massachusetts.
Established in 1952, Big Brothers of Rhode Island, Inc. was created to help young boys reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with mentors that have a measurable impact. Over the years, thousands of boys have grown into happy and healthy men because their Big Brothers were there to guide them. Studies show that when compared with their peers, boys matched with Big Brothers are less likely to experiment with drugs and alcohol, more likely to stay in school and feel better about their relationships with their parent or guardian and their friends.
