What is Apple Pay™?

Apple Pay™ is a mobile payment system that allows you to pay with your credit or debit card using your Apple iPhone or Apple Watch in-store.

How does it work?

Instead of pulling out your wallet and paying with a physical card, you simply tap your iPhone or Apple Watch to the terminal and your transaction is completed. No more swiping and no more signing.

Does Apple Pay™ work with BankNewport cards?

Yes! All BankNewport Debit and Credit Cards work with Apple Pay™.  

What devices work with Apple Pay™?

Apple Pay™ only works with Apple products such as the iPhone and Apple Watch.

Where is Apple Pay™ accepted?

Apple Pay™ is accepted at thousands of retailers, from grocery stores and restaurants to gas stations and retail stores. You can also use it to pay within apps.

Is Apple Pay™ safe?

Yes, Apple Pay™ is a safe and secure method of payment. Payments are processed the same way your physical credit and debit cards are. For further safety, your fingerprint is required each time you use Apple Pay™ and your transaction details are never stored in Apple Pay™.

How do I add a card to Apple Pay™?

To add your BankNewport Visa® Debit or Credit Card on your iPhone open the Wallet app and then tap the plus sign on the upper right corner. Use the device camera to capture your card information or type it in manually. Complete “Card Details” by putting the security code found on the back of your card. You will receive confirmation that your card is now part of your Wallet. Please note that your BankNewport Visa® Debit or Credit Card may look a little different on Apple Pay than your actual physical card.

To add your Visa Debit or Credit Card on, iPad Air 2 or iPad Mini 3 or higher, go to Settings>Wallet & Apple Pay™, tap “Add Credit or Debit Card” and then follow the same steps as for iPhone listed above.

To set up your Visa® Debit or Credit Card on Apple Watch, simply open the Apple Watch app on your watch, select the Wallet & Apple Pay™, tap “Add Credit or Debit Card” and then follow the same steps for iPhone above.

If you already have a BankNewport Visa® Debit or Credit Card on file with iTunes, you can add it to Apple Pay™ as your first card simply by entering the security code on the back of your card when prompted.

To add a new or second BankNewport card to Apple Pay™, use the device camera to capture your card information or type it in manually. Once verified with BankNewport, your Visa® Debit or Credit Card will be ready to use. Pay on your iPhone® 6 or higher, Apple Watch, iPad Air® 2 or iPad mini™ 3 or higher.

Please note: if you wish to use the same BankNewport Visa® Debit or Credit Card on both your Apple Watch and iPhone you must add the card twice – once to the Wallet app using the first method listed above for the iPhone, and again to the Apple Watch app as described above for the Apple Watch. Cards added in one Apple Pay app are not automatically transferred between paired devices.

Customers using Apple Pay™ on the Apple Watch with a paired iPhone will need to use the Apple Watch app to add and manage their cards. A maximum of 8 debit or credit cards can be added to Apple Pay™ on each eligible device.

How can I change my default card in Apple Pay™?

The first debit or credit card you add to Wallet or the Apple Watch app will automatically become your default card. This is the card that will appear on your device when you use Apple Pay at a contactless payment reader when checking out. To change your default card, simply open Settings, select the Wallet & Apple Pay™ tab, and under Transaction Defaults you may change your “Default Card”.

How do I make a payment with Apple Pay™?

Hold your phone near a participating retailer’s card reader. Just place your finger on the Touch ID® to pay. The card reader will let you know that the payment has been accepted.

What happens if my Apple device is lost/stolen?

If your Apple device is ever lost or stolen, and you have another Apple device, you can use Find My iPhone to easily suspend the device account number. If your phone is stolen, please refer to this Apple article on how to secure your device.  

Please note: Find My iPhone must be enabled in iCloud settings on your Apple device before you can locate it with the app. If you can’t download Find my iPhone app, call BankNewport's Customer service at 401.845.2265 or 877.709.2265 (toll free) or the number found on the back of your debit card to suspend your card. You will still be able to continue to make purchases using your physical card even when the device account number is suspended on Apple Pay™.

Can I continue to use my physical card?

Yes, you can continue to use your physical card to make in-store and online purchases.

Why does my card image in Wallet look different from my physical card?

Your BankNewport card image in Wallet and the Apple Watch app is a digital representation of your physical BankNewport debit or credit card. The image you see in Wallet will not be an exact copy of your BankNewport card.

Can I add my BankNewport Debit and Credit Cards to Apple Pay™ on multiple devices?

Yes, you can add your BankNewport Visa® Debit or Credit Card to Apple Pay™ on multiple compatible devices.

Can I get cash back when I use my debit card with Apple Pay™?

If your debit card is your default card on Apple Pay™, you may get cash back. Just place your finger on the Touch ID® to pay. A screen will prompt you to input your PIN, and then it will ask you for the dollar amount you’d like back. Put your amount in and you will receive your cash back from the cashier.

Does Wallet show BankNewport Debit or Credit Card transactions?

Wallet displays the date of your last debit and credit card purchases made with Apple Pay™. It will not display all of your purchase details. For a complete view of all your BankNewport transactions, you must log in to Digital Banking.

Does BankNewport charge any fees to use Apple Pay™?

No. BankNewport does not charge a fee to use Apple Pay™.

What if my debit or credit card is lost or stolen?

Call BankNewport's Customer Service at 401.845.2265 or 877.709.2265 (toll free) and we will cancel your debit or credit card immediately. To report a lost/stolen Visa® Debit Card after hours, select option 3.  You can also deactivate a lost/stolen card online by logging in to Digital Banking. Instant Issue replacement cards are available at all of our branch locations during our normal branch business hours. Replacement cards that are mailed are available in 7-10 business days or rush orders can be placed for a nominal fee.  You should remove the card from Wallet. After you receive your new replacement debit or credit card, you’ll need to add your new card to Apple Pay™.

What should I do when I receive a replacement card because my card has expired?

You will need to remove the old card and add the new card to Apple Pay™.

To remove the previous card, select the information icon which appears as a lower case “i” in the lower right corner of Wallet, then scroll to the bottom of the page and select “Remove Card”. Enter the new card to Apple Pay™ as if it were new – either using the device camera or by manually adding the card information.

Does BankNewport protect my card accounts on Apple Pay™?

BankNewport Visa® Debit and Credit Cards are all protected by Visa’s Zero Liability protection when you notify us promptly of an unauthorized purchase transaction.  To do this, please contact BankNewport's Customer Service at 401.845.2265 or 877.709.2265 (toll free).

What happens if I update my Apple device?

If you replace or update your Apple device your BankNewport Debit or Credit Card(s) will not be transferred automatically. You will need to set up Apple Pay again and add your cards on the new device.
