Samsung Pay® allows you to use the Galaxy S6, S6 active, S6 edge, S6 edge+ or higher and Note 5 to make in-store mobile payments through the use of proprietary built-in technology. It spans locations where merchants accept tap and pay because the technology works on new card readers as well as most of those that have been in place for years.
Samsung Pay® uses proprietary technology that works with both Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) and Near Field Communication (NFC) to make contactless mobile payments. MST and NFC enable the Galaxy S6, S6 active, S6 edge, S6 edge+ or higher and Note 5 to make transactions at most card readers where you can swipe or tap your card, excluding gas station pumps.
Samsung Pay® works almost anywhere you can swipe or tap your card. Note that Samsung Pay® does not currently work at gas station pumps where you have to insert your card, but it will work at most gas station cashier card readers.
Samsung Pay® allows you to use compatible Samsung phones and Gear smartwatches to make in-store mobile payments through the use of proprietary built-in technology. It spans locations where merchants accept tap and pay because the technology works on new card readers as well as most of those that have been in place for years.
Samsung Pay® is automatically installed through a software update for eligible devices. Please visit the Samsung Pay® site for a full list of compatible devices.
Start by either swiping-up from the home button or opening the Samsung Pay® app from your home screen. Next, select the card you want to pay with. Then, verify using your fingerprint and hover your device about ½ inch over the card reader where you’d usually swipe or tap your physical card to complete the transaction. If you prefer, you can set up Samsung Pay® to use a Personal identification Number (PIN) instead of your fingerprint for verification.
No, an active internet connection is not required to make in-store purchases, but your device should connect to the internet at least once per day to ensure that Samsung Pay® stays up to date and remains active. Samsung Pay® does require an active internet connection to activate the app or add a new card.
The last card you made a purchase with in Samsung Pay® will automatically appear as the card that would be used the next time you open the app. However, you can always swipe between all the cards you have added and select a different card before making a purchase.
Most transactions made through Samsung Pay® are viewable shortly after processing, for one month from the time of purchase. Simply open the app and tap on a card to see the last 10 Samsung Pay® transactions made with that card. Additionally, a push notification with transaction details will be sent to your device after each Samsung Pay® purchase. Note: Push notifications require an active internet connection.
Cards can be easily added to the Samsung Pay® app by using your device’s camera to scan in your card’s information, or by manually inputting the card information yourself. If requested, follow any additional steps to verify your card.
For security reasons, we may need you to provide additional verification to add your BankNewport card to Samsung Pay®. If necessary, the Samsung Pay® app will tell you how to verify your card.
Once your information is verified, you will see an on-screen message that your card is ready for Samsung Pay®.
Android phones running Android OS version 4.4 and above support Samsung Pay® on Samsung Gear smartwatches, through the Samsung Gear app. The devices must have the most up-to-date version of the Samsung Gear app installed.
The Samsung Pay app controls the Samsung Pay® service on the phone, which includes which cards are added, transactional history, etc. The Samsung Gear app is a separate app on the phone that enables customers to manage their Gear smartwatch. It controls the Samsung Pay® service on the Gear smartwatch, which also includes what cards are added, transactional history, etc.
Take a picture of the card, or manually enter the card number, cardholder name, expiration date, CVC/CVV code and zip code.
If requested, follow any additional steps to activate and verify your card. Samsung Pay® requires that Gear users activate a security PIN to use the service. If you do not already have a PIN, you will be asked to create one.
No. You cannot directly import cards which have been enrolled in Samsung Pay®. Adding a card to Samsung Pay® on your Samsung phone doesn't automatically add the card to your Gear smartwatch. Conversely, adding a card to your smartwatch doesn't automatically add the card to your phone. However, the same card can be added separately to both your Samsung phone and the Gear smartwatch. Or, you can add a card to your smartwatch and not add it to your phone.

If you locate your device, you will need to add your card back to Samsung Pay® before making any Samsung Pay® purchases.
